Help us stop the low cost housing projects planned for Hutto!

So, what's so bad about public housing in Hutto?

Hutto can't support low income families
  • We don't have the governmental infrastructure necessary to support a low income housing population.
  • The nearest grocery store is Wal-Mart in Round Rock, 8 miles away.
  • Hutto has no public transportation or city Taxi service for those without automobiles.
  • Our schools are already on the brink of bursting at the seams, and we need more time to recover from the explosive growth of the last several years.
Hutto residents don't want low income housing
  • Many believe higher crime rates accompany low income housing projects
  • Property values are already under high strain and may not survive the shock of this project
  • Most people who moved to Hutto over the past few years moved here in part because there were no multi-family properties in the city, and that provided a certain feel to the town that would be lost if some were added now.
Low income families don't want to move to Hutto
  • Since Hutto has no governmental support for social support, there is no benefit for low income families to move so far from Austin where such services are readily available
  • Public transportation is not avaialble for inexpensive travel into Austin.
  • The job market in Hutto is very thin and can't support the types of jobs low income families traditionally rely on
